Compensa correr o risco de arriscar viver no clima portuense? Ou será um perigo para a saúde que devemos evitar?

Para criar sistemas de alerta e prevenção dos riscos para a saúde durante episódios térmicos excecionais efetivamente úteis é fundamental conhecer o contexto climático ao qual os seres humanos estão adaptados. Esta adaptação inclui a habituação a um certo ritmo de variação da temperatura geradora de expectativas sucessivamente memorizadas, mas também as características individuais dos seres humanos (idade, genética, estado de saúde, etc.), e, as condições de vida (literacia, habitação, profissão, emprego, rendimento, etc.). Tendo este puzzle em consideração,e, depois de analisar as relações entre a temperatura e a mortalidade e a morbilidade na Grande Área Metropolitana do Porto, entre 2002 e 2007, parece recomendável acionar os sistemas de prevenção de riscos climáticos para a saúde dos portuenses no caso dos eventos extremos de calor a partir do percentil 70 (P70: Tmín >15ºC e Tmáx >25ºC) e no caso dos extremos defrio abaixo do percentil 30 (P30: Tmín and Tmax > 15ºC and 25ºC), and in the case of extreme cold below the 30th percentile (P30: Tmin < 5ºC and Tmax < 13ºC). And these two elements - minimum and maximum temperature - should be considered at the same time as in the case of extreme heat or extreme cold they are equally important. Lighting conditions in assembling electrical industry

Proper lighting is a prerequisite for obtaining a good working environment. Good lighting includes quantity and quality requirements, and should necessarily be appropriate to the activity/task being carried out, bearing in mind the comfort and visual efficiency of the worker. Apart from the advantages in the health and welfare for the workers, good lighting also leads to better job performance (faster), less errors, better safety, fewer accidents and less absenteeism. A Climatologia Aplicada em Portugal : uma herança também do Professor Carlos Augusto de Figueiredo Monteiro

Em 6 de Abril de 1983, estava o professor Carlos Augusto de Figueiredo Monteiro (CAFM), segundo a biografia publicada, como professor visitante na Universidade de Tsukuba no Japão, assinei o meu primeiro contrato como docente no então Instituto de Geografia da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto. Tinha terminado a minha licenciatura em Junho de 1982 com um bom desempenho e fui desafiada a concorrer a um dos lugares de assistente estagiário que seriam abertos na FLUP. Contudo, o ano de 1982 foi bastante conturbado em Portugal.Greves laborais, incidentes com mortes nas manifestações do dia 1º de Maio, atentados bombistas, um atentado contra o Papa João Paulo II em Fátima, a Revisão Constitucional, as eleições autárquicas, a demissão do Primeiro Ministro Pinto Balsemão, etc. O ano seguinte, 1983, iniciou-se com uma profunda crise económica e com a entrada do FMI em Portugal. Por tudo isto, o repto que me foi lançado, e que aceitei em 1982, só se concretizou em Abril de 1983. Workshop L: From a Language-Only Approach to a Broader View of Communicative Competence for Intercultural Communications in Aviation

During the last 10 years of the ICAO Language Proficiency Requirements (LPRs) we have seen a focus on the training and assessment of pilots and controllers, mainly regarding their language proficiency. However, as aviation has grown in complexity and aeronautical communications have turned into a globalized and intercultural enterprise, training these professionals for effective communication requires a more comprehensive approach. Aiming to explore the real-world communication needs and the several competencies required by this multicultural workplace, a study was conducted (Monteiro, 2019) giving voice to aviation stakeholders from diverse ‘linguaculture’[1] backgrounds. This paper reports on results from the second phase of this study. First, drawing on a review of theoretical and empirical research on Aviation English, English as a Lingua Franca, Intercultural Awareness, and Interactional Competence, models of language use accounting for the aviation workplace were developed. Then, a preliminary matrix, specifying what is relevant to the context of radiotelephony (RT) communications was generated and validated by 128 aviation stakeholders. Participants’ comments on authentic RT scenarios were categorized according to what they perceived as necessary to improve the effectiveness of communication in terms of awareness, knowledge, skills and attitudes, and then organized along with the four inter-related domains: Aviation English, English as a Lingua Franca, Intercultural Awareness and Interactional Competence. Findings disclose what aviation stakeholders found as most relevant for successful RT communications and confirm the narrow view of proficiency defined by the current ICAO LPRs

Teaching of communiaction skills to health care students and professionals: current situation and perspectives

É hoje largamente aceite que a promoção da relação profissional de saúde-paciente conduz ao incremento na qualidade dos cuidados de saúde. A investigação sobre os benefícios da comunicação eficaz levou mesmo alguns autores a considerar a comunicação como a ferramenta mais importante na prestação de saúde. Como consequência, desde o início dos anos 90, as escolas médicas, principalmente do mundo ocidental, têm aumentado o interesse no ensino de competências comunicacionais. Este trabalho partiu da pesquisa bibliografia realizada através da B-on. As palavras-chave utilizadas foram: comunicação profissional de saúde-doente, treino de competências comunicacionais, estudantes e saúde. A análise dos diversos programas de treino de competências comunicacionais, destinados a estudantes e profissionais de saúde permitiu constatar que existe uma enorme variabilidade e falta de consistência nos vários programas de treino atualmente disponíveis. A maioria dos estudos incluía informação insuficiente sobre as competências comunicacionais a ensinar aos participantes. Face à situação atual, são apontadas algumas diretrizes para o futuro do ensino destas competências ao nível do ensino pré e pós-graduado na área da saúde.ABSTRACT - Currently it is widely accepted that the promotion of the relationship of health care professionals with their patients improves the service quality. The research on the benefits of efficient communication led some authors to consider that communication is the most important tool in health services. Thus, since the beginning of the nineties, medical schools in the Western world have increased their interest in the development of communication skills. This work is based on the bibliographic research done via B-on. The used key words were: health care professional —patient communication, training in communication skills, students and health. The analysis of the different training programs in matters of communication training targeted at students and health care professionals allowed to verify that there is a great variability and lack of consistency between the different training programs that currently are available. Most of the studies included insufficient information on the communication skills that would be taught to the participants. In spite of the current situation some guidelines are set out for the future of teaching these skills in pre and post-graduate teaching in the health area.RESUMEN - Actualmente es ampliamente aceptado que la promoción de la relación del profesional de la salud con su paciente conduce al incremento de la calidad de la atención. La investigación sobre los beneficios de la comunicación eficaz condujo a algunos autores a considerar a la comunicación como la herramienta más importante para la atención de la salud. Como consecuencia, desde comienzo de los años noventa, las escuelas médicas, principalmente del mundo occidental, han aumentado el interés en el desarrollo de las capacidades de comunicación. Este trabajo partió de la investigación bibliografía realizada a través de la B-on. Las palabras clave utilizadas fueron: comunicación profesional de salud-enfermo, entrenamiento capacidades en comunicación, estudiantes y salud. El análisis de los diversos programas de capacitación en materia de capacidad de comunicación destinados a estudiantes y profesionales de la salud permitió constatar que existe una enorme variabilidad y falta de consistencia entre los diferentes programas de capacitación actualmente disponibles. La mayoría de los estudios incluía información insuficiente sobre las capacidades de comunicación que se enseñaría a los participantes. Pese a la situación actual, se señalan algunas directrices para el futuro de la enseñanza de estas capacidades a nivel de la enseñanza de pre y pos graduación en el área de la salud

Relevance of assertiveness in health care professional-patient communication

Actualmente existem evidências suficientes sobre os problemas de comunicação entre profissionais de saúde e pacientes e os benefícios de uma comunicação eficaz. Alguns autores chegam mesmo a considerar a comunicação como a ferramenta mais importante nos cuidados de saúde. Desde o início dos anos 90, as escolas médicas têm aumentado o interesse no ensino de competências comunicacionais; contudo, e não obstante este interesse crescente, a comunicação assertiva parece ser votada ao esquecimento. Na verdade, enquanto a assertividade tem recebido atenção crescente na literatura da Psicologia, os profissionais de saúde têm-se mostrado relutantes em aderir a esta área do saber, sendo os treinos assertivos para cuidadores ainda muito escassos. O objectivo deste trabalho é apresentar uma visão geral da assertividade e dos contributos desta para a comunicação eficaz dos profissionais de saúde com os pacientes e apontar seis temáticas específicas (por exemplo, lidar com reacções emocionais excessivas; elaborar pedidos) que devem integrar os treinos de comunicação para estudantes da área da saúde e profissionais de saúde.ABSTRACT - A substantial body of evidence has been accumulated about the problems of communication between health care professionals and patients and the benefits of good communication. Some authors even considered communication the most import tool in health care. Since the early nineties, medical schools has increased the interest in communication skills teaching, but, despite this growing interest, limited attention is played on the assertive communication skills. Yet, while assertion training received increasing attention in the psychological literature, health professionals has been reluctant to support this learning and assertiveness training for caregivers is scarce. The aim of this paper is to present the contributions of assertive communication to more effective health care professionals communication and point out six specific themes (e.g., handling excessive feeling; making request) that should integrated communication skills training for students and health care professionals
